Juan Cabral Named ‘Colorado’s Best Bricklayer’

Lakewood – The 2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Colorado Regional Series has come to a close and mason Juan Cabral and mason tender Jose Limon of Phoenix Masonry in Denver, CO won it all. Now they head to Las Vegas to compete in the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 World Championship next January at the World of ConcreteSummit Brick Company in Lakewood, CO hosted the regional series event, one of 24 being held across North America. The qualifying national competitors will battle for a chance to win over $125,000 in cash and prizes, including a Ford F250 XLT 4X4 truck and John Deere Gator.


This year’s regional event drew several teams of highly skilled bricklayers. Juan Cabral and Jose Limon celebrated with a brick count of 705. For their efforts, Cabral and Limon receive $750, a trip to Las Vegas and the title “Colorado’s’ Best Bricklayer.” They also took home the prize, SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN, which goes to the team with the “most sellable wall,” for this honor they received an extra $350. This was an improvement on their effort last year, when they took home second place, as well as the top craftsman award.


2nd place went to mason Jason Boll and his mason tender Louis Arjun of Creative Masonry in Denver, CO with a brick count of 638 earning them a prize of $400. Third place went to mason Francisco Banuelos and his mason tender Omar Mayrosa of Phoenix Masonry, Denver, CO who received $250.


There was a great crowd this year, with an estimated 200 people on hand to cheer on the masons. Local distributors and national sponsors were also running raffles and games with giveaways for those who came out to help us celebrate masonry.

The SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® was established by SPEC MIX in 2003 to showcase the skill and craftsmanship of professional masons. It is featured as the headliner event of MASONRY MADNESS™ Day during the World of Concrete and recognized as the masonry industry’s premier bricklaying competition with a total purse estimated at $125,000 that annually awards the title, “World’s Best Bricklayer”.
