Darian Douthit wins the 2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Oklahoma Regional

Darian Douthit has a self-proclaimed obsessive desire to be the best mason he could be. That desire paid off in 2016 earning him the title of SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN®, one of the most coveted awards at the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 World Championship Event.
At 47 years old, Darian has been a mason for over 30 years, attending Northeast Oklahoma Vo-Tech for two years before beginning his professional career with Forste Brothers Masonry. He worked from the bottom up, starting as a hod-carrier and now owns his own masonry contracting company, Providence Masonry. “It is a very rewarding career,” says Douthit, “It can be incredibly lucrative, and a mason can move to almost anywhere in the U.S. and find employment. A mason can also have a sense of personal fulfillment from a job well done; he or she can revisit projects years later and still enjoy their craftsmanship.”

Peaking his interest of the trade as a junior in high school at a local vocational program, Darian has the benefit of both youth and experience on his side, as he returns to the SMBL500 for his fifth time. With little time to practice, Douthit notes that much of his focus was on the mental aspect of the race, rather than setting up practice walls. Darian likes the fact that this event brings the masonry trade and vendors more exposure, and would like to thank his wife, children, and his tender, Andy, for their support, as none of it would have been possible without them.
