JOSE MARIO LANDEROS WINS THE 2018 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL
When the words “trowel’s down” were announced on a sunny afternoon in Dallas, Texas, regional history had already been written. Mason Jose Mario Landeros and his mason tender Alolfo Gonzalez blew away the competition, winning a trip to Las Vegas and the regional SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN award by over 150 brick.
Landeros, a 38-year-old mason with Artisan Masonry in Dallas, TX, was easily motivated for this year’s regional. “It’s exciting to compete with other bricklayers to see who is the fastest and of better quality,” he said. That enthusiasm translated into a winning game plan for Landeros and Gonzalez. With the help of their employer, they were able to build several practice walls to improve their quality and speed. A strategy that proved to work with flying colors.
Putting in the work to qualify is just an example of the kind of dedication you’d expect from Landeros and Gonzalez. Which echoes the message they would like to send to the next generation of masons; “Give your best,” Landeros said, “It’s worth all the hard work you put in to be able to say, ‘I helped finish that building.’”
